I am the multimedia lead for IFC, a member of the World Bank Group. The team that I am on tells dynamic stories highlighting our work with the private sector that combats poverty, climate change and promotes equality and inclusion.
Previously I was the senior multimedia storyteller for The Chronicle of Higher Education. I am an audiovisual specialist who conceptualizes compelling visual stories, shoots and edits video, images and audio. I’m experienced in many roles from project manager to supervisor to teacher. I helped establish standards and workflows for Bloomberg Government and integrated HDSLR video into the Sunday morning TV news show, Capitol Gains. I’ve overseen major photography projects for USA TODAY, including logistics for two winter Olympics. There are a lot of great stories out there and many exciting ways to engage audiences using emerging technology. For a more detailed biography see my CV. I can be reached at jschmalz@mac.com
When I am not in the office, I try to get out on a trail or go exploring in my kayak. While not being able to photograph humans during the pandemic, I have been trying to up my game with wildlife photography. I grew-up in New England, live in northern Virginia and count southern Maine as a second home. The images on this site are part play, part work.
