I have always wanted to do a black and white photo gallery, but USA TODAY has always been about color. I jumped at the chance to edit our Passages gallery, With images coming from a variety of time periods and sources, making the black and white was a simple solution to giving it a unified look.  As always I had a little fun including Paul the Octopus. Yes he did not have the cultural impact of Dorothy Height, but he was one of the most talked about characters of the year.
